Single Hung Windows
Single Hung Windows are very similar to double hung windows except for the fact that only one of the sashes slides up and down. With a single hung window, the top sash is fixed or unmovable. Half of the total opening of the window can be used for ventilation. Single Hung windows open by sliding up and down versus cranking out like a casement window. As a result, single hung windows are a good option if you want to ensure that no space is taken up on the exterior of the home such as in walkways or high traffic areas. Single hung windows are highly energy efficient and are among the oldest widow style available.
